OUR MISSION:
Children in Family

Asociația Umanitară Un Nou Început is a registered NGO authorized since 2017 to facilitate local child adoption in Romania. We believe every child deserves a family; not an orphanage, and not to be adopted and taken from their country and culture.  So we help children be adopted in Romania where they are born.

We support these children and families every step of the way. We teach the mandatory course to become an adoptive parent for the county of Brasov, Romania.  We offer trauma and attachment informed counseling and consulting before, during and after placement.  Our services are professional and free to families; this is possible because of our generous donors and partners.

How we Started

I first traveled to Romania in 2002 as a college student. When I stepped off the train in Bucharest, there were homeless children begging in the station. I returned in 2009 to start this organization. We helped the street children find solutions, and we tutored children in orphanages. But we wanted to do even more; we wanted to give children a family. It wasn't easy, but in 2017 we gained authorization and built the local trust needed to be involved in the adoption process. Today we train around 40 families every year for adoption.

Thank you for caring enough about children to look into our small charity. If you can help us, please be in touch, it means a lot.

Why

It's hard to actually change something in a child's life to give them a better future. Adoption fundamentally changes the circumstances of a child in need.

But adoption isn't easy, and we aren't just talking about bureaucracy. These children have been through a lot, and they need their new parents to understand and support them through this transition.

Adoption cuts to the root of identity.

We support these children and their families as they find their way.

Who

We have a small, qualified staff of psychologists and social workers to ensure these families are getting professional help.

We are authorized and inspected by A.N.P.D.C.A., the Romanian governing authority over adoption.  And we work in a legal partnership with our local Child Protection Agency, D.G.A.S.P.C. of Brașov County, Romania.
